Health & Safety

Godfrey & Hicks pride themselves on an excellent health and safety record. We are aware that the safety of our operatives and the general public is of paramount importance and we always aim to work closely with Clients and Designers to ensure that best, safe practice can be achieved on our projects.

The policy of the Directors is to take all sensible and reasonable precautions to ensure that we comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and other Regulations affecting our activities, morally, legally, practically and economically. This extends to Environment, Equal Opportunities and work related Driving issues.

We follow industry guidelines on safety and training and employ Nautilus Health & Safety as our independent Health & Safety Advisor. We are also members of Eastern Builders Safety Group and Safecontractor who provide independent audits for our accreditation.

Environment

Where the work of the Company has an effect on the local environment, we are committed to continually improve its environmental management and performance.

Sustainable Construction can help save money, avoid prosecution, prevent delays and ultimately help the Company stay in business. We promote best practices of sourcing sustainable materials and preventing materials delivered to site, ending in the skip, unused. We will ensure the disposal of waste in a responsible manner and where possible reduce, reuse and recycle substances/materials, keeping waste to a minimum.

Operatives are responsible for ensuring high standards of environmental care in carrying out their work duties. Achieving this assists in our efforts to ensure the good health and wellbeing of the workforce and wider environment.

Quality

Godfrey & Hicks Ltd is a long established contractor providing main and sub-contract services to the construction industry and our key factors to success for the delivery of customer satisfaction are:

  • Delivery time and accuracy
  • Quality and Reliability
  • Price and value for money
  • Satisfactory ongoing financial performance

To achieve this Godfrey & Hicks have established and maintain an effective Quality Management System designed as a minimum to meet the requirements of ISO 9001:2015.

The processes are described and controlled in the Quality Management System and all Company activities are carried out in accordance with this documentation.

The Directors recognise that it is the responsibility of all members of staff to achieve and maintain the standards Godfrey & Hicks expect and to support the Quality Management System.

Training & Development

We know that our Staff play a vital role in the success of the business and we encourage them to continue their own development. We invest in continuous training and development across all areas of our workforce.

We strongly believe that Apprenticeships are worthwhile both for us as a Company and for the young people we employ and train. We currently have one Joinery Apprentice, a recently qualified carpenter who completed three years at College and obtained the ‘Best Student Award’ during his apprenticeship and one Apprentice Site Manager who is currently studying for an honours degree.

Procurement

Godfrey & Hicks has a wealth of experience in securing work across the many forms of procurement found within the construction industry.

We are comfortable with and have experience of:

  • Competitive Single Stage Tender
  • Competitive Two Stage Tender
  • Negotiated Projects
  • Partnering and Framework Agreements

We work with projects that are Design & Build, Spec & Drawings and with Bills of Quantities and have priced and secured work across both public and private sectors.

The vast majority of our work is won through competitive tender. We have however, built up some excellent working relationships with Clients and Consultants securing work via negotiation which saves them time and money on the process.

Please contact our Estimating Department if you wish to discuss your project or procurement options further with us.
